Metamorphosis Animation

In GT, we were given the challenge to create a Metamorphosis Animation. Metamorphosis means to change or alternate. KayleeJaycee, and I chose to do our animation about a girl named Kim and how she changes her dreams. Our focus statement was "Kim Changes Dreams".

It starts off with Kim in class, bored and eventually falling asleep. We did this scene in Stop-Motion Animation. Next, we used photoshop to create the next scene. In the first part of her dream, she is on a plane with evil gummy bears, also known as Shermanators. They push her off of the plane. As Kim is falling a magic button appears that allows her to change her dream. She presses the button and then poofs her way to Candyland. The Candyland scene was shot as claymation. There, the shermanators are back and are running towards her, to attack. Then the button appears once again. Kim touches the button and disappears but then arrives in a Video Game World. This scene was done in Photoshop. She starts to walk around and again, the button re appears along with a Shermanator. They both rush to the button, but again Kim beats the Shermanator to it and disappears into Dr. Sherman's lab.

In this scene, we used photoshop to display the fight between Kim and Dr. Sherman and his Shermanators. It first starts off with Kim entering the lab. Then, when the Shermanators see her they attack her and break her remote. Kim now has to face her fears. She fights back and beats the Shermanators along with Dr. Sherman. Then she gets pulled into a warp and wakes up back in real life. The scene where she wakes up was shot in Stop-Motion animation.

To make our video better we accompanied each scene with customized Garage Band music tracks.

Words of Wisdom

In GT, we were assigned to create a Words of Wisdom film about an elder we know. Jaycee, Kaylee, and I came together to brain storm people we could interview. In the end, we decided to do our story on Mr. Nunn. Mr. Nunn was our 6th grade English teacher who we all enjoyed. He always had interesting stories to tell us. We interviewed him in his own classroom to set the scene. Then, we went back to his classroom to film some B-Roll of him teaching. We did this about 5 times. After, we edited our video and put all our clips together to create our final profile story.

Five Tips For Getting Your Cat To Like You

During the school year, Kaylee, Jaycee, and I were grouped together to create a "Five Tips" video for Hiki-No. For our video we decided to do "Five Tips For Getting Your Cat To Like You". We chose this topic because most of them were taken and we thought that it would be interesting to have a cat in our video. We could've made our video better by reducing the camera movement and giving better tips rather than some tips that are alike.

Practice Profile Story

Before we did our final profile story we did a practice story. Our practice story is about Kaylee and how she incorporates teamwork in her life. We chose to do out story on Kaylee because she is a great team player and leader. She shows a lot of teamwork while playing soccer so we thought that including soccer would mare our video better.

Profile Project Progress

In GT we were given the opportunity to create a short documentary on an elder with great words of wisdom for Hiki-No. Our project is about Mr. Nunn and his life before and after he became a teacher. Mr. Nunn has always told us great and amazing stories so we thought that he would be a great person to interview. We interviewed him in his classroom. Filming in his classroom set the mood and theme of the video. Before Mr. Nunn was a teacher, he had many other jobs. He always felt a love for children and he still does toady. Now, Mr. Nunn is an English and AVID teacher at Kapaa Middle School.

To make our film more interesting we added B-Roll and Voice-Overs. B-Roll is a secondary footage that relates to the topic of the film. We used our B-Roll to cover up mistakes and bring interest to our video. B-Roll helps us clarify what is going on. Voice-Overs are a narration to the story that help . We placed our Voice-Overs under our B-Roll to narrate what is going on. I think that our B-Roll and Voice-Overs really made our story better.

After we finished our video, we evaluated each teams video as a class. Based on our evaluation, we could make our video better by organizing our story and adding more b-roll.

Composition Techniques

Composition techniques are used to make shots better and to create interest. The main four are rule of thirds, framing, unusual angles, and leading lines. Rule of thirds is when the subject of the photo is in one of the outside thirds of an imaginary grid. Framing is when things around the subject blocks parts of the image to frame and draw focus to the subject. Unusual angles is exactly what it sounds like. It is when a photo is taken from an interesting or a "never before seen" angle. Leading lines is when natural lines in the photo lead to the subject.

Three Shot Sequences

Sequencing is a series of clips. Each clip is shot from different angles and show a different perspective. Most sequencing shots go from a wide angle to a medium and then to a close-up shot. In our video we used sequencing to show a girl opening a bathroom door.

Practice Story Reflection

I think that our team did good for our first practice story. My teammates were Kaylee and Jaycee. Our story was about how Kaylee incorporates teamwork in her life. We were able to finish our practice story even though we encountered many problems. We used all the time we were given and more, to complete this project. Together we were able to film our interview and transcribe it on a Google Drive document. We were also able to film some B Roll and create interesting voiceovers for our video.

Later, we went out and filmed some more B Roll during advisory. There, we filmed us passing a soccer ball and displaying teamwork. Then during class, we worked together to improve our transcript and edit our video. Even though we thought that we had enough footage we still had some blank areas. We worked together to decide what to do and ended up repeating a lot of footage.

In the end, we were able to successfully finish our even though we turned it in a little late. If we could change anything in our video I think that we would level out our audio and film more footage. We were rushing towards the end and didn't have much time to review our video. We also could've used more sequencing and a better shot for our interview.

Polar Panoramas

These are my two Polar Panoramas that I've created using Photoshop. The process of the Polar Panoramas are similar to the Spherical Panoramas. First I found an interesting location with a straight horizontal line. Next I took 10-15 vertical photos while moving left to right and overlapping shots. Then I edited the photos in Adobe Bridge's Camera Raw plugin. After that I created the panorama using "Photomerge" in Photoshop. Then I stretched the image so that it is a perfect square and rotated the image 180 degrees. Next I applied the Polar Filter and created the Polar Panorama.

After that I opened an image of me in Photoshop and used the quick selection tool to select myself. Next I copy and pasted the cutout of me onto my Polar Panorama and skewed it to make it more realistic. Then I copy and pasted the cutout again and turned the exposure and opacity down, creating a shadow. After that I manipulated the shadow making it look real.

Spherical Panoramas

These are two of my Spherical Panoramas that I created using Adobe Bridge and Photoshop. First I took 10-15 vertical pictures of an interesting location while moving left to right, overlapping each photo. Next I used Adobe Bridge to edit the photos to make them POP! Then I used the "Photomerge" tool in Photoshop to create a Panorama. After that, I took the panorama and changed its dimensions to 500x500 making it a square. Then I rotated the image 180 degrees and applied the "Polar Filter" to the image. Finally I used the elliptical marquee tool to select and feather the spherical panorama.
